3 Ways to Make Concrete Sawing More Successful
Being hired to cut through concrete is always good news. This is because these projects rarely disappoint in terms of workload involved and the labor that is needed. In other words, you want to please your client and make the most of the experience for your team. So how can you go about making the concrete sawing process smoother?
Spacing the Joints
First of all, you need to be careful about where the concrete joints are placed. Part of the reason that concrete sawing is so essential is that this is how joints are created in the concrete in the first place. Experience plays a significant role in how to determine when to create the joints and how far apart they should be. Consider the thickness of the slab for a moment, as this will help you decide where the cuts must be made; if the piece is 2 inches, then the joints need to be spaced 6 feet apart.
Hitting the Correct Depth
It is also crucial to reach the correct depth. This means avoiding any potential hazards that could disrupt or delay the project, such as hitting utility lines or stacks of rebar that can be detected through the use of ground-penetrating radar, or GPR. Once made, the joints need to be deep enough in the ground to prevent cracks in the concrete. This can happen if the cuts are too shallow. Either way, consider the total thickness of the slab that you are sawing. Deeper cuts are not the best solution, either. This is because it can interfere with how the aggregate interlock holds the pavement together.
Timing the Project Correctly
Finally, be sure to get the timing right. Consider the temperature around the job site, how humid it is, and how the concrete is being cured. Sometimes, you can start sawing only four hours after the concrete has finished curing. In other cases, you will need to wait for three days until you can continue. It all depends on where you are working and the time of year in which you are trying to get your work done.
